Louis Moreau Gottschalk's most famous piece arranged for Tuba-Euphonium Quartet.
Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829 – 1869) was an American virtuoso pianist known around the world for his performances as well as his signature work, The Banjo (1855). This piece aims to replicate the characteristics of a banjo but on an unaltered piano. One of the many difficulties of performing this work on piano is the repetition of notes, a task much more comfortable for the strumming of a banjo player. The Banjo also incorporates a reference to the popular song Camptown Races by Stephen Foster, a highly regarded composer of the time.
